Line Strengths
1. Lines
In textile screen printing there is a general color-expansion of 10-15%. Hence, it is important to not make lines too thin. Generally, in the original scale positive lines and negative lines are to have a minimal thickness of 0.5mm and 1.5mm respectively.
2. Fonts
The recreation of fonts in flag-printing requires particular care.
Fonts in Full Color Print
Due to the color-expansion in textile printing, the recreation of serifs of Anitqua-fonts or very thin Grotesk-fonts is problematic. To avoid blending and illegibility, be generous when it comes to using fonts.
Narrow fonts and Serifen (?) can be improved by using outlines. The minimum height of large capitals should be no less than 15 mm in the original scale.
Fonts in Halftone Print
In addition to the before mentioned problems, this technique creates a blurriness along outlines due to the usage of Halftone with of 4 to 10 points/cm.
The printed image can be improved by adding a outline to the font.
When working with a rough halftones, generally speaking, the smaller the font the more illegible the print becomes.
